Review

Designing this project was such a rewarding experience from start to finish. I loved seeing my wireframes come to life, especially on the desktop interface where everything turned out exactly how I envisioned it. Keeping the layout clean and approachable with bright, light colors made the whole site feel user-friendly and aligned with the brand’s vibe. Translating that same energy into the mobile version was definitely more challenging, especially without a layout reference, but it pushed me to think creatively within a smaller canvas. Figuring out the ingredient layout and adding the thumbs up/down feature really brought the mobile experience together. Overall, this project was a fun mix of creativity and problem-solving, and I’m proud of how everything turned out!

Summary

This project aimed to design a recipe app that caters specifically to busy professionals like Julia, who need an efficient yet enjoyable way to find and explore recipes. My thought process began with focusing on simplicity and functionality, ensuring the interface was clean and intuitive. I placed the navigation bar at the top to give users quick access to key features like browsing through categories and exploring specific filters, such as ingredients on hand, dietary restrictions, and difficulty levels. I wanted users to feel empowered to make quick decisions, so I added visual elements like chef hats to represent dish difficulty, ranging from 1 (easy) to 3 (more advanced), alongside key details like prep time and a brief dish description.

In addition, I incorporated features that would make the app feel personalized and dynamic, such as allowing users to filter recipes by difficulty and dietary needs. The "Explore" tab was designed to inspire users with new ideas, while the “MOST POPULAR THIS WEEK” section changes weekly to showcase the most-voted recipes, ensuring fresh content and encouraging ongoing user engagement. Throughout the design process, I aimed to create a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring that the app was both easy to navigate and visually inviting for users. This project not only met Julia’s practical needs but also focused on providing a seamless and enjoyable experience for anyone using the app.
